Overview
Parsel is an all-in-one workspace for creating narrative real estate appraisal reports. Traditionally, appraisers relied on a combination of Microsoft Word and Excel—a time-consuming process that required manually updating values across reports that could exceed 100 pages, increasing the risk of inconsistencies and errors.
Prior to Parsel, Bowery offered a tool called BoweryRES, which generated report text from structured inputs. However, it was limited to New York City properties, creating a need for a more scalable solution as the business expanded.
As a product designer on the team, I played a key role in defining the foundational structure of Parsel. Through early concept testing, we explored multiple approaches—including extending existing tools and building a Word-like editor—before landing on a two-part system: a structured “Workbook” for data input and a flexible “Report Editor” for assembling and refining narrative content.
Following extensive research, testing, and close collaboration with engineering, we launched an alpha version of Parsel. The product provided appraisers with a scalable foundation for creating and managing reports, replacing fragmented workflows with a more integrated and extensible system.
